Come perform at Boxley's vocal jam session every first Tuesday of each month. Open to all aspiring jazz vocalists, high school through adult. Relaxed, supportive and fun environment - all-ages, so invite your family & friends! Joined by an incredible professional rhythm section, so come prepared with charts for a favorite jazz standard or blues - support your fellow vocalists in the Greater Seattle area!

A showcase of wonderful, local jazz instrumentalists and vocalists! Led by great bass player/jazz accordionist Baumann who has been performing for over 20 years. A long-time professional musician and teacher, he's also been featured here with one of our favorite local bands, AlpenFolk. Also with Harold Drews, guitar; Danny Kolke, piano, Nancy Mickel, voice & Catherine Drews, voice.

1, 8, 15, 22, 29  FUTURE JAZZ HEADS & JAZZ HEADS - Middle School at 5pm, High School at 7pm
Local music students & rising stars take the stage for a jazz jam! Featuring students from the award-winning jazz bands at Mount Si High School in Snoqualmie, WA, Twin Falls Middle School in North Bend, WA and Chief Kanim Middle School in Fall City, WA. With Chris Clark on bass. Middle schoolers perform at 5pm, followed by high schoolers at 7pm!

2   JOE BAQUE & STEVE LUCENO
Pianist Joe Baque is well-known to area music fans for his vast musical knowledge and deft touch in styles from classical to show tunes to jazz. A master and veteran musician who grew up in the midst of New York's golden age of jazz, he’s the real deal. He’s played with jazz notables Lena Horne, Stan Getz and Louis Armstrong and is recognized for his quality performances. Joined by Olympia bassist Steve Luceno.

9   DIANA PAGE DUO
Vocalist Diana Page’s lifelong adoration of music gives her depth beyond her years as she interprets age-old melodies with a new, yet respectful approach. Pony Boy Records says, she "has a clear voice, with elegant jazz phrasing and a gentle forward momentum. Her directness is pleasing and interesting. Somewhere between Blossom Dearie and Anita O'Day." 16  WWU ALUMNI JAZZ BAND - Special Event! Reservations Recommended!
Join music lovers across the state for a celebration of the strength and vitality of Western's contribution to the jazz scene in the Northwest and beyond! Mike Allen, saxophonist and Jazz Director at Western, has enlisted the talents of some of the top jazz musicians in the region (and WWU alumni!) to form the band. Together they will perform an intimate set of ensemble music, followed by a jam session featuring special guests. Featuring Doug Ostgard, alto sax; Mike Allen; tenor sax; Richard Cole, baritone sax; Steve Mostovoy, trumpet; Jimmy Austin, trombone; Milo Petersen, guitar; Marc Seales, piano; Dave Captein, bass & Greg Williamson, drums.


23  ERIC ALEXANDER/DAVID HAZELTINE QUARTET - Special Guests & Jazz Stars from NYC! Reservations Highly Recommended!
Eric Alexander is an acclaimed saxophonist from NYC know
n for his sophisticated hard bop style. In 1991, Eric competed against Joshua Redman and Chris Potter in the Thelonious Monk International Jazz Saxophone Competition. Placing second, this launched him into the whirlwind life of a professional jazz musician. He’s worked with many notable jazz artists, including Ron Carter, Joseph Farnsworth, Pat Martino and McCoy Tyner. He’s amassed a considerable discography of critically acclaimed recordings and continues to tour the world and play to capacity audiences.

David Hazeltine has successfully forged his own distinctive style and musical voice out of the accumulated greatness and weight of a modern piano tradition. Since moving to New York City in 1992, David has made a name for himself as a "musician's musician." In addition to his working trio (with drum legend Louis Hayes and bassist Peter Washington), David is in constant demand as a sideman. Recent credits include work with Freddie Hubbard, James Moody, the Faddis-Hampton-Heath Sextet, the Carnegie Hall Jazz Band and the Louis Hayes Quintet.

30  KATY BOURNE DUO
Fun loving, hard-swingin' Seattle jazz vocalist who approaches music with strong, rhythmic sensibility, an infectious sense of humor and straight-on honesty. Bourne is a steady and unassuming figure on the Seattle jazz scene and performs at nightspots, private functions and festivals throughout the Northwest. Check out her latest album "As the Fates Decide".

3   OLIVER GROENEWALD NEWNET - Special Guest with 9-Piece Band!
Oliver Groenewald is an arranger, composer & trumpeter who has shared the stage with jazz greats like Art Farmer, Mark Murphy, Willie Thomas and Chuck Israels. He writes for several renowned German orchestras & ensembles and just recently moved from Germany to the region. Together with top Northwest players, he will perform his compelling third stream in a 9-piece band setting. Also joined by Jay Thomas, Travis Ranney & Dan Wickham, reeds; Mike Dorr & Dan Marcus, brass; John Hansen, piano; Chuck Kistler, bass & Adam Kessler, drums.

10  MILO PETERSEN TRIO
Renowned Seattle guitarist, drummer and composer whose lines are boppish and melodic. Petersen has been active in the Pacific Northwest jazz community since the late 70's. He's performed with some of the world's finest, including Joe Sample, Ernestine Anderson, Herb Ellis, Mose Allison and more, in addition to recording two CDs with master drummer Elvin Jones.

17  GREG WILLIAMSON QUARTET
Drummer Williamson is Mr. Pony Boy Records himself, leading an excellent jazz quartet and "[driving] with a big band energy!" He's appeared on over 30 albums and toured with the big bands of Woody Herman, Glenn Miller and Harry James. Check out his other groups: The Pony Boy All-Star Big Band and the Young Lizards, as well as his latest album "Scenes and Voyages”.

24  FRANK CLAYTON TRIO
Multi-instrumentalist Clayton is a veteran of the New York and Seattle jazz scenes - a mentoring musician with an ever-attentive and sophisticated jazz sensibility! He's performed at venues across the United States and Europe with a who's-who list of jazz greats, including McCoy Tyner, Jay Clayton, Barry Harris, Eddie Harris, Lee Konitz, Art Lande, Cecil McBee, Charles Mingus, Sam Rivers and many others. Frank is an instructor at Seattle's Jazz Night School and leads jazz trios and small combos for professional and private engagement regionally and festival performances worldwide.

Greta has been a mainstay on Seattle's Jazz stages for many years and has been voted "Northwest Vocalist of the Year" seven times by Earshot Jazz! With her recent successful dates at New York's Dizzy's Club at Lincoln Center and tours of Russia, Singapore, Hawaii and Japan, Greta's sound is now reaching new audiences. Greta has released seven CD's and a DVD live concert with guitarist Mimi Fox. Greta is also a respected teacher and has been on faculty at Jazz Camp West, Drayton Harbor Jazz Festival and The Fairbanks Summer Arts Festival. She has a thriving private teaching practice and is releasing an instructional e-book in 2014 and new CD in 2015. Joined by Marc Seales, piano; Clipper Anderson, bass & Greg Williamson, drums.

Seattle-based vocalist Janette West's multi-layered career spans four decades, and was nurtured in the fabric of Northwest music history. Her voice and style is a rich composite of dynamic jazz improvisation with the plush warmth of soulful R&B influences. JazzTimes Magazine writes, “West is a first rate swinger, comparable in style and gusto to Ernestine Anderson, though the warmth of her ballads is more reminiscent of Natalie Cole.” The Examiner writes: “Janette West is a lovely and mercurial vocalist, a local favorite.”

18  VICTOR NORIEGA QUARTET - Special Guest!
Award-winning composer/keyboardist from Vancouver, BC, Victor Noriega has been described as having “the sensitivity of Bill Evans, the propulsion of Horace Silver and the experimentation of Thelonious Monk,” while his compositions have been characterized as “layered, complex, interesting and rhythmic,” “introspective at times, energetic and boundary-stretching at others… seamlessly blend[ing] jazz and modern classical influences." He’s been a featured artist in the Vancouver International Jazz Festival, the Earshot Jazz Festival, Bumbershoot, the Filipino American Jazz & World Music Festival, and the Philippine International Jazz Festival.
