Shear Jazz
Thursday: 9/10 7:30 & 8:45 PM
Shear Jazz pays tribute to the music of the George Shearing Quintet, first formed in 1949. Shearing was of the world's most influential and beloved jazz pianists and composers, writing over 300 compositions, including the classic “Lullaby of Birdland”. Anton Schwartz & Inga Swearingen - Special Guests
Friday: 9/11 7:30 & 8:45 PM
Jazz saxophonist Anton Schwartz has been drawing listeners in with the power, spirit and subtle complexity of his music since he bounded onto the San Francisco jazz scene in 1995. At 27, Anton was answering the call of his long-standing passion for jazz, stepping away from the high-level research in Artificial Intelligence he’d carried out at Harvard and Stanford. As a musician Anton quickly gained an enthusiastic following as fans responded to what the San Francisco Chronicle called his “warm, generous tone, impeccably developed solos and infectious performance energy.” In the years since, Anton has won over listeners and critics at high-profile jazz venues across the country, including the Blue Note in New York, Yoshi’s in Oakland and San Francisco, Washington D.C.’s Blues Alley and the Monterey Jazz Festival.

Dynamic singer-songwriter Inga Swearingen infuses her signature jazz style with a good helping of folk and finds herself right at home with her upcoming release, First Rain. She ventures into new territory while staking a claim in what she knows best: music and song rooted in family, nature, love and human spirit. Whether putting her personal stamp on a jazz standard or combining the understated grooves of bossa nova with Swedish folk melodies, Inga captivates her audience with her gift of joyful melodic invention.

Louis Hayes Quintet - Special Guest
Thursday: 9/24 7:30 & 8:45 PM
After developing his skills in the fertile musical ground of Detroit in the 1950's with the likes of Yusef Lateef, Kenny Burrell, Doug Watkins and others, drummer Louis Hayes found himself at the tender age of 18 in New York as a member of the great Horace Silver Quintet. His first recording with Horace, the classic Six Pieces Of Silver, would introduce him to the jazz world as a new force to be acknowledged. Louis continued to enhance his reputation with Horace from 1956 until 1959 when he joined Cannonball Adderley where he propelled the quintet to joyous musical heights and timeless recordings through 1965. He joined piano master Oscar Peterson from 1965-67 during which time he and bassist Sam Jones became known as the "dynamic duo", recognized as the most powerful rhythm duo in jazz. Louis has played and recorded with jazz greats such as John Coltrane, Thelonious Monk, J J Johnson, Sonny Rollins, Jackie McLean, Wes Montgomery, Joe Henderson, Cedar Walton, George Benson as well as Ravi Shankar, John Lee Hooker and others.

Featuring Hayes' Cannonball Adderley Legacy Band, with Grammy award-winning saxophonist Vincent Herring, preeminent trumpeter Jeremy Pelt, New York City pianist Rick Germanson and Seattle bassist Michael Glynn!
